WHO...Started by Ed Cote shortly after his retirement from AlliedSignal Automotive Products. Ed started work for FRAM Corporation 27 years ago as a toolmaker in the engineering prototype shop. As the years went by FRAM became part of the AlliedSignal Corporation while Ed served in various functions within the engineering group. At the time of his retirement he was the Manager of Engineering Evaluation with responsibility for the filter prototyping; filter testing and spark plug testing operations.

In addition to these duties Ed maintained an active roll in the FRAM; BENDIX and AUTOLITE motorsports programs, providing technical assistance at the races for teams which included, NASCAR Winston Cup; Busch Grand National; Daytona Dash and Featherlite Modified series; NHRA Drag Racing; World of Outlaws; USAC; ARCA; SCCA Transam and CART teams.

WHY... While not ready for the rocking chair, Ed’s retirement was early and voluntary and had long included plans for motorsports involvement. At various points in his career Ed has participated in motorsports as a competitor, early as a drag racer and in the late 80’s fielding his own Modified at tracks throughout New England as a driver and later owner/crew chief. When the opportunity to provide motorsports services to AlliedSignal presented itself those plans took the form of Nitrosport Marketing Services.

WHAT...Nitrosport provides technical services to companies that want to participate in motorsports activities (especially NHRA drag racing) yet do not have the in-house expertise to get started or maximize the benefits. Motorsports offer a very powerful mechanism for advertising and promotion of goods and services, however, without a sound knowledge of the territory, many dollars can be expended before the desired results are achieved. Motorsports can be a very expensive game if all you can do is throw money at it. Nitrosport can help leverage dollars; goods/services in a cost-effective manner. Some typical services Nitrosport can provide are:
  • The who; what; where and why of dealing with the right race teams.
  • Monitoring the investment in a team and assuring the goals of both team and sponsor
  • Identifying opportunities for special products and their contribution to the teams success
  • Arranging for special events such as driver appearances at meetings or store promotions. Facilitating motorsports displays.
